Celebrating our Community Heroes: Andrew and Alice Lui, Bangor.

It was an absolute pleasure to award Andrew and Alice Lui from the Garden Cantonese Restaurant my first-ever Community Hero Award.

Andrew and Alice have done so much for the local community in Bangor since starting their business back in 1985. Transforming what was a run-down hotel into a popular and thriving local business, the Lui family has constantly gone above and beyond.

Their Chinese New Year buffets have raised thousands of pounds for charities over the years, including Hope House, St. David’s Hospice, Bernardo’s Cymru, and St. John’s Ambulance.

Hundreds of local children have had an opportunity to learn about Chinese traditions and culture, thanks to their regular school visits and traditional lion dances.

Then during the pandemic while their restaurant was closed, the family cooked and donated over 800 fresh meals to Ysbyty Gwynedd staff.

Thank you so much, Andrew and Alice for everything you have done for our community. Bangor is so lucky to have you!
