Veterans Voices Meeting in Llandudno

Earlier this month, I hosted my first Veterans Voices meeting in Llandudno. I was joined by Gill German MP and representatives from groups which support the armed forces community as well as some individual veterans living locally.

The meeting was an opportunity for me to reiterate this The Labour Party government’s unwavering support for our armed forces and to talk briefly about some of our recent policy announcements, including millions of new additional funding for veterans’ homelessness support programmes and the establishment of an independent Armed Forces Commissioner.

Most importantly though, it was an opportunity for me to ask questions and listen to the lived experiences of everyone there. We talked about challenges and opportunities including supporting veteran mental health, housing, funding cycles and harnessing the incredible talent and dedication of those who have served when they leave the forces.

It was a great discussion – lots for me and Gill to follow up on, and I will hold another session to update on progress next year. My next Veterans Voices event will be in Bangor – if you’d like to attend (or would like to keep in touch about my work in this area), please email: [email protected]
