Communities across Bangor Aberconwy are benefiting from new UK Government investment in the places and facilities that local people value, from sports clubs and play areas to community halls and high streets.
Through the Pride in Place Impact Fund, both Conwy County Borough Council and Gwynedd Council have received £1.5 million in capital funding over two years to support projects in their areas.
Claire has been out across the constituency visiting some of the places receiving support and seeing what the funding will mean for their communities.
In Conwy, projects receiving funding include:
- Penmaenmawr Phoenix Community Hub, supporting plans to expand the hub and the services it can provide locally.
- Llanrwst United Juniors Football Club, with investment in facilities at the club.
- Betws-yn-Rhos, where funding will provide new playground equipment.
- Ysbyty Ifan Memorial Hall, supporting improvements to an important community facility.
- Cerrigydrudion, where funding will help bring public toilets back into use.
- St Ffraids Church House in Glan Conwy, which has received £41,000 towards its refurbishment.
- Funding across the county to help bring empty shops back into use and revitalise local high streets.
These are just some of the projects being supported across Conwy, with funding going towards improvements to community spaces, public spaces and town centres. There is investment reaching communities in Gwynedd too. Projects receiving funding include:
- Wartski Fields Look-out, Bangor, supporting its restoration and improvement to make this well-used public space on Holyhead Road safer, more accessible and more attractive.
- Penrhosgarnedd Community Centre, for new video conferencing equipment and facilities at the centre.
- Rachub playground, for new inclusive musical play equipment, creating more opportunities for children and young people to play, be active and creative.
- Bryn Owen Milk Stand, Llanllechid, restoring one of the Ogwen Valley’s last surviving historic milk stands, alongside new bilingual interpretation signage to help preserve this part of the area’s agricultural heritage.
This sits alongside further investment in Bangor, including shopfront improvements on the High Street.
Together, these projects show what the Pride in Place Impact Fund is intended to achieve: practical, visible improvements to the places people use and value every day, while giving local organisations the opportunity to take forward projects that respond to the needs of their own communities.

The Impact Fund is part of the UK Government’s wider Pride in Place programme and is focused on supporting improvements to community spaces, public spaces and high streets.
It sits alongside the separate £20 million, ten-year Pride in Place investment in the Tudno and Mostyn area of Llandudno, which will give local people a direct role in shaping long-term investment in their neighbourhood.
Claire is currently running an open survey for people living in the Pride in Place neighbourhood in Tudno and Mostyn, giving residents the opportunity to share what they want to see for their area and help shape how that investment is used.
