Standing Up for Cleaner Rivers and Waterways: Holding Welsh Water to Account

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has been issued with a £44.7 million enforcement package following environmental damage and sewage spills.

Protecting our rivers, waterways and local environment is an issue that matters deeply to people across our community. That’s why I have written to the Chief Executive of Welsh Water requesting a meeting to discuss what this enforcement package will mean for our area.

During that meeting, I will be seeking clarity on which local sites will be prioritised in Bangor Aberconwy for improvements and what action will be taken to prevent further environmental damage.

While this enforcement package is an important step, there is still more work to be done. The UK Labour Government will be introducing a new Water Bill this year to strengthen regulation of the water industry and drive forward efforts to clean up our rivers, lakes and seas.

I know how important protecting our local environment is to residents, and I will continue to press for improvements while keeping you updated as things progress.
