Claire Hughes MP has welcomed the announcement that both Conwy and Gwynedd will benefit from new Youth Hubs as part of the UK Government’s Youth Guarantee, helping more 16 to 24-year-olds access work, education, training and apprenticeships.
Youth Hubs are designed to give young people one place to go for support, bringing together careers advice, training opportunities, help with things like housing and mental health, and connections with local employers. The aim is to make it easier for young people to find the right support and move into work, education or training, with the Government’s ambition that every young person should be within an hour of a Youth Hub by public transport.
The exact locations of the new hubs have not yet been decided. They will be developed locally by the Department for Work and Pensions, councils and other local partners, based on local need and partnerships. Claire Hughes MP has already met with representatives from the local Jobcentre to make the case for the Gwynedd hub to be based in Bangor, and will continue working with partners as plans for both hubs progress.

“No young person should be written off or miss out on opportunities because they can’t access the right support. Every young person deserves the chance to build skills, gain confidence and create a future they can be proud of, whether that’s through work, an apprenticeship or further education.
“That’s exactly what these Youth Hubs are about. They’ll bring together careers advice, training opportunities and practical support in one place, making it much easier for young people to get the help they need and take the next step.
“I’m delighted that both Conwy and Gwynedd are set to benefit from this investment. I’ve already started making the case for the Gwynedd hub to be based in Bangor, which is well placed to serve communities from across the county, and I’ll keep working with local partners and updating residents as plans develop.”
The new Youth Hubs form part of the Government’s wider Youth Guarantee, a £2.5 billion programme designed to ensure every young person can access work, education, training or an apprenticeship. Alongside the rollout of new Youth Hubs, the Government has introduced the Youth Jobs Grant, which is available to employers across Great Britain and offers £3,000 for each eligible young person they recruit. The grant is designed to help businesses with the costs of recruitment and training while creating more opportunities for young people to gain valuable experience and build lasting careers.
